Dr. Fola Olagbemi鈥檚 teaching focuses on programming and software design. She also mentors computer science majors who are pursuing research, some of whom have co-authored articles with her. Her Hope courses have included Software Design and Implementation, Data Structures and Software Design (both in Java), Introduction to Programming with Python, Web Technologies, and Computer and Network Security.

Her research includes a collaborative project with Dr. Brooke Odle of the Department of Engineering, in which Dr. Olagbemi鈥檚 focus is the application of machine learning to classification of patient handling data.

Before she joined the Department of Computer Science in 2020, Dr. Olagbemi taught part-time at Western Michigan University while completing her doctoral program in computer science. Prior to embarking on her Ph.D. program, she worked in the banking industry, and also at the multinational business consulting firm PricewaterhouseCooper in Nigeria, where she was an assistant consultant in the advisory unit and a senior associate in the assurance energy business unit.

OUTSIDE THE COLLEGE

Dr. Olagbemi and her husband have two sons. An avid reader, she has worked her way through most of the books by Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Anthony Trollope and George Elliott; for a change of pace she recently enjoyed Angeline Boulley鈥檚 contemporary novels Firekeeper鈥檚 Daughter and Warrior Girl Unearthed. She is a member of Revitalize Church in Kalamazoo, where she plays the keyboard during worship and volunteers in the nursery.
