Since 2022, Vanessa Reyes has managed the offices of the Department of Philosophy and Department of Religion. Her responsibilities include supervising student workers, proctoring exams, facilitating the departments鈥� marketing and outreach programs, and coordinating faculty position searches.

She served earlier as the office assistant for the college鈥檚 TRIO Upward Bound program for high school students. During an internship in Hope鈥檚 Public Affairs & Marketing office when she was a senior at the college, she filmed and wrote post-game interviews and media summaries, developed an off-season social media strategy for several of the athletic programs, and managed athletics social media accounts.

WHY DO YOU LOVE HOPE?

Hope has been a meaningful part of Vanessa鈥檚 journey for many years. She had the privilege of participating as a student in Hope鈥檚 educational outreach program, CASA, which serves elementary students and was held in Lubbers Hall, where she often studied on the second floor as a young student. Today, that very same floor is home to her office 鈥� a full-circle moment that reminds her daily of how far she鈥檚 come. She also participated in TRIO Upward Bound, which supports high school students and played a big role in her decision to attend 换妻社区.

She believes it鈥檚 the people and the sense of community that truly make Hope special. Everyone here genuinely looks out for one another 鈥� it feels more like a family than just a campus.

OUTSIDE THE COLLEGE

Vanessa loves reading fictional books and catching a good game 鈥� especially if a Texas team is playing (sorry, Michigan sports fans!). Her favorite saying is, 鈥淕ood, better, best. Never let it rest till your good is better and your better is best.鈥� She enjoys playing basketball and keeping up with her favorite sports teams: the Spurs, Longhorns, and Cowboys. You can often find her downtown at Mizu Sushi, enjoying a delicious spicy salmon roll.
