The Department of Theatre will present “Little Women: The Musical” on Nov. 14-15 and 20-22 at 7:30 p.m., along with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 16. All performances will be held in the DeWitt Mainstage Theatre, located in the DeWitt Student & Cultural Center.
Directed by Lucy Malmsten, visiting assistant professor of theatre, “Little Women” is based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel, follows the March family and takes place in Concord, Massachusetts, from December 1863 through 1866. Sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy grow into their roles in society, experiencing life’s many adventures, traveling the world, falling in love, and dealing with deep losses. Through it all, they learn that, no matter what life may throw at them, family is forever.
As we grow nearer to the opening of this production, Malmsten says, "We are so excited to bring this beloved classic to the community. ‘Little Women: The Musical’ draws us into the heart of the March family, inspiring us to live with courage and to follow our finest dreams, whatever path they may lead us on. It’s a story full of warmth, laughter, and love — making for an especially joyful start to the holiday season.”
While performances require a purchased ticket, the Sunday, Nov. 16 matinee is free to the public. The Saturday, Nov. 22 production will serve as “Accessibility Saturday,” which features optional live captioning, sensory-friendly light and sound design, and DeWitt Theatre’s standard hearing loop.
