2026 Fall Semester New Student Move-In

We are excited to welcome you to campus on Thursday, August 27, 2026! Below you will find important information for you to know.

Before You Leave Home

Review the Room Condition Report Guide: The first thing you鈥檒l want to do once you arrive at your new room is complete a Room Condition Report for the space. It鈥檚 best to do this before you start unpacking so that you don鈥檛 miss anything. To help make sure you can get started unpacking as quickly as possible, we鈥檝e created a so that you can know in advance what you鈥檒l need to do in order to complete this important documentation.

Sign up for a check in time: If you haven鈥檛 done this already, please . Timeslots are to help us space out the amount of cars and people unloading at a given time. You can arrive at any time within that timeslot (and it may be better to wait a bit). You have the full weekend to unpack and settle into your room, not just the time slot you have signed up for.

Label all your belongings: For those arriving between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on August 27, we will have some welcome crews ready to help you unload your belongings and carry them to your room. In order to help make sure that none of your belongings get misplaced, please label all of your items with your last name, building and room number.

What do I need to check in?: You will need to show us a form of photo identification when you check in. This can be a license, an old school ID or your new Hope Student ID. You should also have your login information. Make sure those are with you and readily available.

Arriving To Campus

Can I see my room before move-in? We know that many of you will arrive a day or two before move-in. While we understand that you are excited to see your new home, the Orientation and Residential Life staff are busy training and getting ready for your arrival, so we do not have the ability to show people their rooms early.

Where do I go? You will be checking into both your housing assignment and Orientation program at your residence hall. Below is more information on how you will drive to your location, but know you will go straight to your hall to check in. If you are checking into a cottage or apartment, you will go to the Housing Office in the DeWitt Center.

Check out the campus map! . The Orientation/Move In view will show you all the residence halls and suggested parking areas, as well as trash and recycling locations.

How do I get there? Your chosen maps app will do a great job of getting you to campus. Once you are here, know that we close 10th Street and 13th Street to through traffic on move-in day. To help with traffic flow and maximize unloading zones, we also change them to one-way streets between Columbia Ave. and College Ave. So, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., 10th Street will be westbound only and 13th Street will be eastbound only. can help you visualize and understand these directions better.

Listed below are the streets you should use to access your unloading zone. Enter these streets from the appropriate direction, and Campus Safety officers will be there to meet you and give more specific instructions.

Gilmore, Phelps, Voorhees, Cook, VanVleck and Durfee will be accessed by going west on 10th Street.
Dykstra will be accessed by going east on 9th Street. (Note that 9th Street is always a one-way street going eastbound.)
Kollen, Wyckoff, Lichty, and Scott will be accessed going east on 13th Street.
If you are not in one of these locations, you will be checking in at the Housing Office. This office is in the hallway between the DeWitt Center and the Bultman Student Center.
For students who are assigned to live in a cottage or apartment, or who have off-campus or parent commuter status, you can get your Orientation materials from the Orientation Station located on the first floor of the Bultman Student Center (across from the Kletz).

When can I enter the unloading zone? If you are here before your scheduled check-in time, please park in one of the campus parking lots to wait for your check-in time. At that time, you can then move to 9th, 10th, or 13th streets to unload.

When I鈥檓 on Campus

Checking In: Your residence hall will have a designated check-in table. Make your way to that table with your identification. If you have guests with you, they can stay with your car until it is unloaded and moved to permanent parking. Make sure that once your car is unloaded you move your car to permanent parking. At the table you will get your room key, move-in day parking pass, Orientation materials and welcome bag.

Unloading: After you enter the unloading zone, Orientation Assistants (OAs) wearing orange will greet you and unload your belongings into your room. While they start the unloading process, you can go to the check-in table. Those who are with you can help unload while you are getting your key, but please make sure that someone stays with your car while in the unloading zone.

Once You鈥檝e Checked In

Move your car (parking): At check-in you will receive a parking pass for move-in day that we have filled out with your contact information. Please place the parking pass on the dashboard of your vehicle so that it can be read from outside your car. When your vehicle has been unloaded, we ask that you move to a parking area right away.

The will guide you to suggested parking lots on campus to leave your vehicle while you unpack your belongings.

Get your ID: You will need your ID to access your hall and other campus buildings after 5 p.m. on Friday, August 28. After you check in (or before, if you are early) you will need to get your ID. ID pictures and printing will take place in room 238 in the Martha Miller building. will assist you in locating Martha Miller.

Resource room: The resource room is your one-stop shop to connect with various campus offices and departments to take care of tasks and ask questions. It is located in the first-floor Martha Miller rotunda and is open from 1鈥�4:30 p.m.

Bookstore: You can also make your way over to the bookstore to pick up your books and some swag!

Eat lunch or dinner: Phelps Dining Hall will be open for students and families throughout Orientation weekend. Students will need their IDs and families will need their Orientation nametags (which will be in the Orientation materials you get at check-in) to gain entry into the dining hall.

Set-up your room: While your loved ones are there, take time to set up your room. Your Resident Assistant (RA) will be around to introduce themself and answer any questions you might have. Inevitably, you might need a few last minute purchases too. Just a few minutes from campus are Meijer, Target and Walmart.

Bunking or Lofting Beds: If you are planning on bunking or lofting the beds in your room, make sure you watch this to know the best way to do this. Physical Plant staff will be present in the halls during move-in to help!

When is your first activity?

All Students: Your first Orientation event will be a residence hall meeting on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Your hall staff will tell you where to meet for this meeting when you get here.

Phelps Scholar Participants: You have a welcome event on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Bultman Student Center Schaap Auditorium (lower level of the BSC next to the room with all the couches and piano).

Hope Forward Students: Your kickoff event will take place on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Graves Hall. (Graves is located next to Dimnent Chapel).

Transfer Students and Families: Your welcome dinner is on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Bultman Student Center, Great Room (first floor of BSC, next to the Kletz).

Families: Your first event is the Windmill Island Getaway on Thursday from 7鈥�9 p.m.

Step2Success Participants: Steps2Success (S2S) will kick off with a Multicultural Student Organization Meet and Greet on Friday from 11:30 a.m.鈥�1:30 p.m. in the Keppel House (the house across from Phelps Dining on 10th Street).

What if I need help and direction?

Orientation and Residential Life staff will be at the check in tables and lobbies of your halls. They will all be wearing Hope t-shirts. They will be able to answer your question or point you in the right direction.

For all of Orientation weekend, there will be an Orientation help desk (the Orientation Station) located on the first floor of the Bultman Student Center (across from the Kletz Market). This table will typically be staffed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

2026 Fall Semester Returning Student Move-In

We are excited to welcome you back to campus on Saturday, August 29, 2026!

Selecting a Move-in Time Slot:
Once you have signed your Housing Agreement, you will be able to . Please know that there are limited sign-ups per time slot.

If you are living in a cottage or apartment, we encourage you to coordinate with your housemates鈥� arrival times to hopefully alleviate congestion around your cottage or apartment.

Arriving after 3 p.m.:
If you need to arrive after 3 p.m. on the August 29, select the 鈥淎fter 3 p.m. or Sunday, August 30鈥� option. If you arrive after 3 p.m. or on Sunday and you live in a residence hall, you will go directly to your hall and call the RA duty phone. They will check you in and give you your key. If you are arriving after the check in time and moving into a cottage and apartment, you will receive further instructions in our next email on how to check-in.

Checking In

If you are living in a residence hall:
You will go straight to your assigned hall to check in between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.. If you arrive after 3 p.m., go to your residence hall and call the on-call number posted on the main entry. A member of the Residential Life staff will get you checked in and will provide your key.

If you are living in a cottage or apartment:
When you arrive on campus, you will need to fill out the Check-In Form, found in your Hope Housing Portal. Here are instructions for filling out the form (instructions will also be posted on cottage/apartment doors):

Log into your
Under the three lines on the left, select 鈥淗ousing Assignment鈥�, then select the Fall Term
Select 鈥淪tart Check-In Process,鈥� then enter your Student ID number
Select 鈥淐onfirm Check-In鈥�
Once you check in, you will be re-directed to a page that will tell you how to access your housing unit (code, student ID, or key).

Most cottages and apartments are accessed using a code. If you live in a cottage or apartment with a code, your access code will be found in your Hope Housing Portal once you fill out your Check-In Form.

If you live in Cook Village, College East, Nykerk, Kletz, DeYoung, Loraine-Lubbers, Strand or Zoetewey, you will use your student ID and PIN to access your home. When you arrive on campus, fill out the Check-In Form to let us know you have arrived, and then your ID will be activated to move into your space.

If you live in 364-366-368 Triplex, Blue Cottage, Fairbanks Cottage, Gazelle, Kraker Annex, Nykamp, Oggel, Ross Apartments, Treehouse or VerGeer, you will need to go to the Housing Office in the DeWitt Center to check in and get your cottage/apartment keys. If you arrive on campus after 3 p.m., your keys will be available to pick up at Campus Safety.

Traffic and Unloading:
There will be a lot of you unloading cars in a small area at the same time. Whether you are living in a hall, cottage or apartment, please unload your car and move your car to a parking lot away from your housing as soon as it is unloaded, to allow for others to unload.

2027 Spring Semester Move-In

New and returning students may begin to move into their housing on Saturday, January 9, 2027, between 12 noon and 3 p.m.

New students please come to the Student Formation Office (DeWitt Center, 141 E. 12th St., Holland) between 12 noon and 3 p.m. to check in and pick up your room key/code. More information will be provided to you via email in December regarding your housing, move-in and new student orientation. If you plan to arrive after 3 p.m., please email housing@hope.edu to receive further instruction.

2027 Spring Semester Move Out

College housing officially closes at the end of the spring semester for summer break at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2027.

Students are required to leave their campus housing within 24 hours of their last final exam or by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2027.

Instructions for move-out will be provided by the Residential Life staff during the required closing meetings.

Students who live on campus and who need to stay on campus later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 7, must fill out the late stay request form. Late stay requests can only be sumitted for May 7, 8 or 9. Summer Housing begins on May 10, and summer housing charges apply.

Remain late requests are designed for students who need to remain on campus due to on-campus academic commitments, on-campus employment, transitioning to on-campus summer housing, coach-supported athletic events or delayed travel arrangements.

Remain late requests for personal reasons are reviewed but likely not granted.

Early Arrival or Late Stay Permission

Early arrival or late stay permission is limited to students who need to be on campus prior to the beginning of the semester or after the end of the semester because of an on-campus job/research, athletics, student leaders or pre-orientation/academic program and those who are unable to travel home for break, and who have approval from their supervisor, coach or faculty/staff program leader.

If you fall into one of these categories, you will need to receive approval from the Housing Office. To request a late stay or early arrival, fill out the late stay or early arrival form which can be found in your under Early Arrival/Late Stay Forms. More complete directions are outlined below.

Note for Semester Break (Christmas) 2026: For students who are unable to travel home and will be with us for all of semester break, please complete a Late Stay Request for December 18鈥揇ecember 31, 2026, and an Early Arrival Request starting January 1鈥揓anuary 8, 2027.

Students requesting early arrival or remain late stay permission for personal reasons will have their application reviewed but likely not granted. Should the request be approved, the student will be billed accordingly. Charges are as follows:

Early arrival/Late stay for personal reasons: $75 per day for each day prior to or after the scheduled move-in/move-out day.
Late stay at the end of the spring semester: Students who stay beyond the end of the spring semester for personal reasons will be billed the summer housing rate as posted on the Rates & Costs website.

FALL 2026 Semester Early Arrival
The Early Arrival Request Form will be available in the students on August 1, 2026. Please watch for an email from Residential Life and Housing with details for move-in weekend and how to request early arrival permission.

All requests must be submitted via the Early Arrival Request Form by Sunday, August 22, 2026. Requests emailed to the Housing Office or received after the published deadlines, if approved, will be subject to a $25 late fee.

In addition, those who arrive early without permission may be subject to either an improper check-in fine of $50.

Fall 2026 Semester Late Stay
The Late Stay Request form will be available in the students under Early Arrival/Late Stay Requests starting November 15, 2026.

All requests must be submitted via the Late Stay Request Form by Sunday, December 12, 2026. Requests emailed to the Housing Office or received after the published deadlines, if approved, will be subject to a $25 late fee.

In addition, those who remain late without permission may be subject to an improper check-out fine of $50.

Spring 2027 Semester Early Arrival
The Early Arrival Request Form will be available in the students under Early Arrival/Late Stay Requests starting November 15, 2026.

All requests must be submitted via the Early Arrival Request Form by December 23, 2026. Requests emailed to the Housing Office or received after the published deadlines, if approved, will be subject to a $25 late fee.

In addition, those who arrive early without permission may be subject to an improper check-in fine of $50.

Spring 2027 Semester Late Stay
The Late Stay Request Form will be available on April 12, 2027. Please watch for a notice in This Week at Hope from Residential Life and Housing with information about the late stay request process.

All requests must be submitted via the Early Arrival Request Form by Sunday, May 2. Requests emailed to the Housing Office or received after the published deadlines, if approved, will be subject to a $25 late fee.

In addition, those who remain late without permission may be subject to an improper check-out fine of $50

Instructions on How to Complete a Remain Late or Early Arrival Request

Log into your using your Hope email credentials
Click on 鈥淓arly Arrival/Late Stay Forms鈥� which can be found in the top header of the page
Select the correct term. Example: if you are applying for early arrival stay for Fall semester, select Fall 2026
Fill out the form indicating the days that you will be staying on campus along with the reason for your request
Your request will be reviewed by the Residential Life and Housing Office, and you will get an email indicating whether your request has been approved or denied
